Ergonomics is the science of designing the best fit between people and their work environments and surroundings. Ergonomics accounts for a worker’s capabilities and limitations and seeks to ensure an ideal arrangement of tasks, equipment, information, and work environment.
On-Site Office Evaluations
To assess the fit between employees and their workstations, we at Return to Work Services consider the following factors when evaluating a workstation.
- Physical demands of the worker
- Assessment of risk, discomfort and symptoms
- Review of the essential job tasks
- Workstation configuration
- Assessment of the equipment and accessories being used by the worker
An ergonomic evaluation can be performed for an individual employee or for the department; we will provide the client with a description of the specified job or work area observed, risks, and corrective recommendations.
An on-site office evaluation time is generally 45 minutes or longer for those with a workers’ compensation claim. Our reports are thorough and will contain a list of corrective recommendations. Our experience also includes voice-recognition software assessments.

Training
The purpose of training is to change the work behavior of the employee and/or change the physical layout of the workplace. Our primary objective is to decrease the risk factors for Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD), which have become a leading concern to employers.
Some warning signs of MSD disorders: Inability to make a fist, self- massage, pain, tingling sensation. If, despite exercises and modifications, pain continues, we recommend the worker visit a physician.
During our training, we educate and provide the worker with pamphlets regarding exercise and stretch breaks. During each evaluation, we provide the worker with stretching exercises. Doing a quick five- minute, warm-up exercise before starting to work, just as runners stretch before a run, can also help prevent work related injuries.
